  • Oscar's Hotel - The Long Room 18 Doveton Street Sth Ballarat 3350 Australia (map)

This seminar is aimed at leaders and directors of Not for Profits and charities.

The Case for Governance

Governance shouldn’t be boring.  It’s about people and the relationships you build in your organisation.  It’s about how the board talks to management and members, and how you keep a handle on all those important suppliers and other stakeholders.  It’s about how those relationships are defined and managed and the ‘framework of rules’ by which your organisation operates.  Governance will always be the most important contributor to your organisation’s success or failure.

Our second Not-For-profit seminar for 2018 asks you to take a fresh look at what governance can achieve.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to gain insights from others’ experiences and access the expertise of the Harwood Andrew’s Not-For-Profit team.

Hosted by Andrew Robson, Principal, Harwood Andrews

Speakers

 Jesse Drever, Lawyer, Harwood Andrews

You can’t talk about governance without referring to the constituent document of your organisation.  Your constitution is a legal document – a contract – and compliance with its terms effects your registration, tax-exempt status and how you manage decision-makers and decision-making.  Jesse will outline some key considerations and remind us about the important aspects of your constitution that should be regularly reviewed.

Sonia McCabe, Senior Associate, Harwood Andrews

Governance of employees and volunteers is a perennial issues for boards and management of not-for-profits.  As this area of the law becomes more and more complex, Sonia will discuss recent developments and remind us of the importance of looking after your people and their safety.

Paul Gray, Principal Lawyer, Harwood Andrews

What does good IT and cyber governance look like?  It’s not enough to simply tick the governance boxes in this area, and Paul will walk you through expected standards, recommended practices and review what the law, your funding bodies and your clients are expecting now and into the future.

Lunch will be provided
