Property - Further Changes To Stamp Duty

The Victorian Government has announced further changes to stamp duty in Victoria under the 2017-2018 State Budget.

In addition to the changes already noted in our earlier update, here, the stamp duty exemption for transfers between spouses or domestic partners will no longer apply from 1 July 2017 for any property other than a principal place of residence or as a result of a relationship breakdown.

The changes remain subject to the passing of enabling legislation by the Victorian Government.

If you were planning for a transfer to your spouse or domestic partner you will only have until 30 June 2017 to complete this transfer and take advantage of the exemption.

Please contact us if you would like to arrange such a transfer before 30 June 2017.
